So sorry to learn of Joan’s passing. While we knew her through many community contacts where she always stood out as a cheerful, ‘classy’ lady, our closest contact was when she was a member of the local Rotary Club. Since we were driving to meetings from our home in Braeside, it made sense that we would pick her up on our way. She always had lots of local ‘news’ to share along the way! Our condolences to her family members and many friends at this time. Rest in peace Joan. Joyce & Terry Dawson.

Sincere condolences to the McConnell family.
There are so many memories of Joan, first as a neighbour and as a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church.
Whenever we would meet she always asked about our sons and what they were doing.
Joan was a cornerstone of the Church from being a member of the ACW to cooking for events and helping at the Christmas Bazaar.
She always greeted you with a smile and a kind word.
May your memories help you through this difficult time.

Met your Mom while working as a teenager at the Vanier restaurant. She showed me the ropes with a lot of laughter on the side. There after we were always friends, never missing a beat no matter the time that had passed. She was a fun, positive, great person, you all should be proud of. Sorry we’re not there to celebrate her life, but she’s in our thoughts. “Meet you in Heaven, Joan.” xx

Jim, Lana, Donna and the entire MConnell family. I first met your mother Joan when I worked at Playtex. Joan took great pleasure in making me laugh and loved to "tease me" for being a "Young Buck". I always enjoyed meeting her at the blood donor clinics as she made a point of making her way over to see me and catch up, after donating blood, it was your Mom that always walked me to the table and made sure I had a coffee and cookies. We would talk at great length and I would get her laughing, it was as if we picked up from whenever we last spoke to each other. Joan always gave me a big hug before I left. Your Mom was a wonderful lady with a great sense of self, great wit and a wonderful sense of humor. She left a very lasting impression on me and I will always cherish those memories of your mom. Certainly one of a kind! Sending heartfelt condolences to you all at this very difficult time.

So many cherished memories of my chats and visits of Joan over the years. From the 1st time I met her at the blood donor clinic were she was waiting with a big smile and a glass of juice to our phone chats in the evening later in life-Joan always made you laugh with her lively personality. My most favourite memory of all was the time she was cooking a 15 lb beef roast for a function and she picked me up to lift it out of the oven and take it to the hall. There was no room in the back seat so she told me just to hold on to this steaming giant roast pan on my lap in the passenger seat. Joan couldn't see over the steering wheel and I was praying nothing bad happened. Joan just told me I worry too much! We made it safe and sound with the roast and ourselves all in one piece. I can't imagine how many precious memories your family has but I know whenever Joan was around there was never a dull moment and plenty of colourful conversation. Heaven just became a little brighter. Rest in peace my dear friend.
