Obituary of Alice Elmira Gerow MacMillan

MacMillan, Alice Elmira Gerow Passed away in Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on Sunday February 5, 2006. Elder daughter of Henry S. Gerow and Jessie Carmack Gerow. Born December 8, 1915 at Alderson, Alberta. with her parents and sister moved to Crescent B.C. in 1921. Educated in schools in B.C., she was a graduate of The University of British Columbia with further studies at the University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and Laurentian University. Languages and music were her special interests. She taught schools in British Volumbia and Ontario. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, the Canadian Federation of University Women, the Registered Music Teachers of Ontario, the Huguenot Historical Society of New York and a member of the Sudbury Branch of the Canadian Opera Guild. She was a long time member of St John’s United Church in Levack, Ontario where she served on church boards, committees and choir. She also served as secretary of the Board of Govenors of the Huntington Conservatory of Music at Laurentian University in Sudbury. She was the wife of Patrick W. MacMillan (P. Eng., BC ’39) whom she married in 1942 and the mother of Eileen Conway, Edmonton Alberta, William MacMillan (Susan) of Kinburn, Robert MacMillan (Susan) of Oakville and James MacMillan (Gail) of Etobicke. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Patrick, Adam (Shelly) and Kathleen Conway, Malcolm and Philip MacMillan, John and David MacMillan and one great grandson, Zac. Also survived by one niece Gale Daley and nephew Wayne Smellie. A Memorial Service will be held in the Boyce Funeral Home Chapel Saturday May 13, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.. Memorial gifts to the MacMillan Bursary Fund at St. John’s United Church, Levack Ontario (Box 120 Levack Ontario P0M 2C0) or the Arnprior Food Bank or a charity of choice appreciated.
