January 8, 1930 – July 6, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Velma Florence Berry on Saturday evening, July 6, 2024, at the Brockville General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. At the age of 94, Velma's life was a beautiful testament to love, music, and faith.
Velma was the beloved wife of Austin Berry for an incredible 69 years. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with love, shared experiences, and a profound commitment to their family and community.
A devoted mother, Velma's love for her family was boundless. She is survived by her children: Paul Berry of Deep River, Cynthia Woods (Pat) of Markdale, Ross Berry (Kelly) of New Castle Centre, N.B., Margaret Moore (Kevin) of Brockville, and Arnold Berry of Arnprior. She was a cherished grandmother to Rob (Angela), Andrew (LeeAnne), Robin, Kiara, Hannah (Cody), Jessica (Bruce), Matthew (Sarah), Madison, and Connor, and a treasured great-grandmother to Cohen, Noah, Kadance, Brooke, Ethan, Blake, and Lily. Velma will also be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews Monique, Richard, and Lisa (Mario).
Velma was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Elma Ross; her uncle William and aunt Ethel Crozier, who lovingly raised her as their own daughter; her step-father Reverend Roy Raymond; and her step-sisters: Hildred Hahn (late Joe), Glenna Keddy (late Carl), and Lois Hunt (late Jack). Velma was also predeceased by her grandaughter Lisa, brother-in-law Carroll Berry (late Edith) and her nephew Douglas.
Velma's passion for music was a defining aspect of her life. She traveled across Renfrew County to teach music lessons, inspiring countless students with her talent and dedication. Her commitment to education continued at Alexander Reid Public School, where she shaped young minds as a Grade 3 teacher.
A woman of deep faith, Velma was an active and cherished member of her church community. Her beautiful voice and piano playing enriched many worship services, bringing joy and inspiration to all who heard her. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, evident in her kindness and generosity.
