Obituary of Denis Kerfoot

September 14, 1938 – December 19, 2023

Denis passed away on the evening of Tuesday December 19, 2023 at the Queensway Carlton Hospital in Ottawa. He was born on September 14, 1938 in Lymm, Cheshire, U.K. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Lillian Kerfoot and brother David. He is survived by Dianne Lesway of Stittsville and Mary, Shawn and Diane Kerfoot in the U.K. as well as Donald (Gwen) Lesway, Glen (Mavis) Lesway, Gail Lesway, David (Lori) Lesway, Mary Jane (Mikel) VanRiemsdyk and Jennifer (John) Eastman in Canada. Denis always remained modest about his academic achievements. He obtained a BSc in Geography and Geology at King's College in London, a Master's Degree in Geography and later a PHD in Arctic Geomorphology at the University of British Columbia. He enjoyed a career that evolved from university professor to federal government scientist and later environmental advisor on various oil and gas projects while living in Calgary. Denis found joy in stamp collecting, photography, bird watching, camping, extended cruises where his favorite port of call was the Falkland Islands. He also supported Dianne in their adventures owning and showing West Highland White Terriers. Denis’ arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street N., Arnprior. In celebrating Denis' life, let us remember his contributions, both academic and personal, and the impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in memory of Denis to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation.
