Obituary of Shirley Towey

Theresa Catherine "Shirley" Towey

(nee MacDonald)

September 7, 1943 – December 8, 2023

(Retired from Pfizer, 42 years to the day)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Towey on Friday December 8, 2023, at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital at the age of 80 years. Shirley was the beloved wife of the late James "Jim" Towey, sharing 55 years of love and companionship until his passing in March 2018. Born to Ambrose and Dorothy (MacMillan) MacDonald, Shirley was predeceased by her brothers Allan MacDonald (Lorraine) and Ewen MacDonald (late Ruth) and sisters Sheila and Sharol MacDonald. She is survived by her brother Wayne MacDonald (Debbie) and sister Sharon MacDonald, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her family, Shirley cherished the deep friendship with Nancy Hammond and her family. Nancy, her husband George, and their daughter Jacquelyn, along with Jacquelyn's husband Shannon and their children Cooper and Evans, shared decades of laughter and joy with Shirley. Their bond was a source of strength for both families, a testament to the enduring power of true friendship. Shirley's warm and caring nature also endeared her to many wonderful neighbors and friends. Professionally, Shirley devoted 42 years (to the day) to Pfizer, where she played a vital role in the factory's operations. Her dedication and contributions over the years have made a lasting impact. Shirley’s legacy is one of dedication, love, and kindness. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace. A visitation to celebrate her life will be held on Friday December 15, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street N., Arnprior. Spring interment will take place at Castleford Union Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation or the Arnprior-Braeside-McNab Seniors at Home Program Inc. in memory of Shirley's compassionate spirit and commitment to her community.
