Obituary of Doreen Hodder

Doreen Elizabeth Hodder

(nee Morphy)

October 4, 1933-May 17, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Elizabeth Hodder on Wednesday evening May 17, 2023 at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family, after a brief illness at the age of 89. She was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many, both within her family and the community of Arnprior. Doreen was born to the late Earl and Gertie (Kerr) Morphy and grew up on the family farmstead in Claybank, Ontario. She married the love of her life, Charles “Charlie” Hodder, and they shared many beautiful years together until his passing in 1989. Doreen was a loving and devoted mother to her children James Hodder (Joan) of Shelburne, David Hodder of Arnprior, Linda Neal (Jeff) of Arnprior, and Sharon Hodder (Michael Steel) of Ottawa. Family meant everything to Doreen, and she adored her role as a grandmother to her two grandsons and eight great-grandchildren. Doreen took great joy in cherishing moments with her family, sharing laughter, and celebrating their accomplishments. Doreen's caring nature extended beyond her immediate family. She formed strong bonds with her siblings: Lorna Kerns (late Alf) of Milton, Waveney Salter (late Allen) of Carp, and Harold Morphy of Arnprior. Throughout her life, Doreen embraced her community, touching countless lives with her warmth and compassion. She was a talented seamstress by trade and a long-time member of the Emmanuel Anglican Church Women and Friendship Group. She loved to serve others with a smile and always had time for a friendly chat. She will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, and many friends in the community, as well as her friends at the Arnprior Villa, where she shared joyful moments and built lasting friendships. Doreen's furry friend Tamiko brought her great comfort and companionship, and they shared a bond that words cannot describe. Doreen's presence will be profoundly missed at Boyce Funeral Home Ltd. in Arnprior, where she served faithfully for 22 years. Her dedication, kindness, and unwavering support made her an invaluable member of the Boyce family. She was like a second family to her colleagues, and her absence will be keenly felt. Her legacy of compassion and professionalism will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of working alongside her. We will miss you, our dear “Miss Daisy”. Visitation to celebrate Doreen's life will be held at the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., located at 138 Daniel Street North, Arnprior, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service in the Boyce Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Mark's Anglican Cemetery, Pakenham. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Boyce Reception Centre. The family kindly requests donations to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation IV Pumps Department, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, or to the Emmanuel Anglican Church, Arnprior. These organizations held significant importance to Doreen, and your contributions will honor her memory and support causes close to her heart.
