Obituary of Doug Bonell

John Douglas Bonell, M.D., Retired-Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital Age 94, passed peacefully at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on January 14, 2021, with his beloved wife of 68 years, Ethel (Irwin), by his side. Devoted father to Bob, John (Karen), Laura Duffy, Janet (Hal) Scharfe, Mary (Don) Carman. Loving grandfather to Natalie (Danny) Lefebvre, Michael Duffy, Matthew Scharfe, Kevin Scharfe, Christal Veleke and adoring great-grandfather to Sarah Lefebvre. Predeceased by parents John and Myra (Stinson) Bonell, sister Inez Bonell, and brother Ken Bonell (Lois Mainprize). Will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews. Dedicated surgeon at the Arnprior Hospital for 30 years, avid sportsman: Glebe runner, hockey goalie, and into his 80's, a downhill skier and golfer. A lover of his cottage, literature, history, piano, singing and whistling, his quick wit, dry humour, and gentlemanly demeanor will be greatly missed. Many thanks to Dr. Gordon and the staff at Arnprior Hospital for their excellent care and kindness. Doug's arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street North, Arnprior where a private family visitation will be held. Interment Arnprior Malloch Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation, the Grove Redevelopment Fund, or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated.
