Obituary of Adrian Robert Service

Thursday, March 30, 2017, Adrian Robert Service passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord. He had suffered for a brief period with Lewy Body's Dementia. Adrian was born in Ballymena, Ireland August 24, 1942. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and sisters in 1953 where he attended high school and served in the Canadian Navy. At the age of 22 he chose the United States as his permanent home, giving him his first opportunity to follow his life's dream of working for the railroad. Shortly upon arrival into the United States, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his tour dutifully and honorably. He achieved his goal of retiring at age 57 from Norfolk Southern Rail Road. Adrian was preceded in death by his parents Bobby and Lillian Service, sister Astrid Maclean, and his first wife and mother of his elder two children, Becky Britt. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 28 years Angella Bond Service, sons Adrian Robert Jr. (Bobby (Jill), Ian Bishop Service, daughter Carrie Marie Dunnivan, grandchildren Stacy, Keith, John, Tyler Ann, Rebecca, and Copeland, five great-grandchildren, sisters Noreen Kirkland and Pauline (Eric) Jones a host of nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in love, and two kitties Sheba and Ballymena who stood guard and never left his side during his final days. Adrian was an avid golfer, Nascar afficionado, University of Alabama and Miami Dolphins football fan. His favorite pastime was watching his boys play baseball. He never missed a game in 35 years of either of his sons or his three grandsons. Adrian was a people person who never met a stranger, and everyone was drawn to his Irish blue eyes and easy smile. He loved children and children loved him, always making sure he had candy by his chair and dollars in his pocket to give the children who came through his home. His greatest pride was his children and family. He leaves an immeasurable legacy and heritage to each of us. Adrian will be sorrowfully missed, but joyfully remembered. His family would like to issue a special thank you to Hospice of Montgomery who helped ease him through his final days. The celebration of life memorial service for Adrian Robert Service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Vaughn Road, Montgomery, Saturday, April 8 at 2 PM. Family will receive friends and guests beginning 1 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dixie Youth Baseball of Montgomery, The Lewy Body's Dementia Foundation or Hospice of Montgomery.
