Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth Christie Ann Cranston (née Kennedy) July 16, 1913–November 8, 2015 At 102, Mrs. Elizabeth Cranston passed away peacefully on November 8 at her home, the Orchard View Living Centre in Greely, ON. Lib, as she was known to all, was born in a log cabin in Elk Lake, ON in 1913. She won a scholarship to Art College, received her teaching diploma and then graduated from the University of Toronto in 1934 in Mathematics. She continued to pursue her education and worked as a social worker for the City of Toronto. Married in 1939 to Frederick Cranston, Lib accompanied her husband during WWII to military posts from Esquimalt, BC to Gagetown, NB prior to Fred’s deployment overseas. Settling after the War in Toronto and Cambridge, ON, the couple later retired to Ottawa in 1970 to be close to the beloved family cottage at Marshall’s Bay near Arnprior. They spent many happy years golfing at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club and enjoying “The Bay.” For many years Lib worked as a volunteer for numerous charitable organizations in Toronto, Cambridge and Ottawa. She spent the last nine years at Orchard View Living Centre, near her family, and was well cared for by the wonderful staff. Lib is survived by her two children Ann Blair (Bob Ryerson) and Jim Cranston (Lynda Cranston) as well as two grandchildren: Lisa Blair (Jean Dolbec) and Geoff Blair (Adrienne Blair); and four great-grandchildren: Ethan and Isabelle Dolbec, and Connor and Maeve Blair. Lib had a long and happy life; she was a great role model and will be sadly missed by all. A family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity that is close to your heart.
