It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Eldred Jette, known as Gerry, who died peacefully in Ottawa on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the age of 79.

Gerry was the husband of Gail Jette (née Simmonds) for fifty years. He was a loving father to Elaine Jette (Kyle Wilson) and Paul Jette (Amber Kennedy), and grandfather to Rayne, Alyssa, Noah and Miranda. He is survived by his brothers Bernard Jette and William Jette (predeceased by his wife Nell) and will be forever remembered by his niece Rosalind Maguire (Andrew) and his great-niece Elizabeth and great-nephew Ben. Gerry was also a brother-in-law to John Simmonds (Deirdre) and uncle to Melanie and Crystal. He was the son of the late William and Frances (Gauvreau) Jette and was predeceased by his sister Rosemary Jette.

Gerry shared a lifelong friendship with David McKeen, a constant and valued presence in his life.

Those who knew him will remember that Gerry was never happier than when he was working on engines, lighting something on fire or out in a boat, surrounded by family, friends, and the open water he loved so much.

Gerry’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street N., Arnprior. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer.

Donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the Ottawa Tool Library.

Gerry will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for always being willing to lend a hand, for his bonfire stories, and for the way he shared his knowledge with others. He lived life on his own terms with a fearless spirit and an adventurous, sometimes unconventional approach to life.
