Obituary of Elizabeth "Anne" McIntyre

Elizabeth “Anne” McIntyre

(O’Neill)

1953 – 2026

Anne passed away peacefully at the age of 72, in the comfort of her home on Sunday, January 11, 2026, with her devoted husband by her side, following a lengthy illness. She was the best friend and loving wife of Gary, and the proud, supportive mother of Mitchell (Sarah), Ashley, and Adam (Poppy). Her joy grew even deeper as "Grandma" to Jeremy and Rowan. As the eldest child of the late Greg and Edith (Carmichael) O’Neill, Anne set a foundation of love and leadership for her family that lasted a lifetime.

As a protective big sister, Anne naturally stepped into the role of family matriarch from a young age. She wore the title of 'big sister' with immense pride and a deep sense of responsibility, always looking out for her younger siblings with a protective heart. She is survived by Peter (Julie) O’Neill, Tish (Rob) Ball, and Maureen (Chris) Spratt. Predeceased by her parents, Greg and Edith O’Neill, and her brothers, Chris (Cathy) and Kevin (Anna), Anne leaves behind a rich legacy of family.  Anne was a cherished daughter-in-law to the late Mickey and Viola McIntyre, and a dear sister-in-law to Mervin (Susan), Michael (Susan), and Stephen (Linda). "Annie" will be forever remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched so deeply.

Anne’s greatest joy was found in the growth and happiness of her children. She was a constant and steady presence through every new season, hobby, and sport, always encouraging Mitchell, Ashley, and Adam to embrace new challenges with confidence. As their ambitions carried them from familiar nearby places to the shores of the East Coast, and across the globe to the distant beauty of New Zealand, Anne remained their greatest cheerleader. She took immense pride in their curiosity and drive, finding renewed wonder as she lived vicariously through their adventures and shared in their evolving passions.

Anne and Gary celebrated 50 years of marriage this past August. Their love story began in their teenage years; they grew up together, navigating life’s changes hand-in-hand. Over five decades, they built a life defined by deep comfort and unwavering partnership. To Anne, "home" was never just a place, but wherever she and Gary were together. Whether they were facing challenges or celebrating milestones, Gary remained her anchor and her constant companion until the very end.

Anne will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will remain woven into the lives of those she leaves behind. Her family takes comfort in knowing that everyone she loved carries a part of her with them, whether through a shared character trait, a quiet piece of wisdom she offered, or a lesson learned from her strength. Her influence will continue to guide and shape us for generations to come.

Anne’s final arrangements have been entrusted to Boyce Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Society.
