Obituary of Roger Fréchette

Joseph Roger Victor Fréchette

"Roger"

June 9, 1945 – December 30, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Roger on the morning of December 30, 2025, at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital, at the age of 80.

Roger was the beloved husband of 56 wonderful years to Peggy (Harris) and a proud and loving father to Andrew (Shelley) and Joanne Fréchette (Alain). He was a cherished grandfather to Lindsay, Carter, Ryan, Abi, and Michael. Roger was a dear brother-in-law to Patricia (Pat) Harris, Wallace (Wally) Harris (Gloria), and Wayne Harris (Cass).

He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Serge, Normand, Nathalie (Alain), Craig, Mark, Tara (Shane), Kirk (Tanya), Lee (Brian), Danielle (Brent), and Sonya (Anthony), as well as by many other relatives and friends. Roger was predeceased by his sister Thérèse and by his parents, Victor and Eleanore (Coutu) Fréchette.

Roger retired after a dedicated career as a public servant, having proudly served more than 25 years with the Federal Government. In retirement, his greatest fulfillment came from supporting Peggy in her many years of active involvement within the community. Whether quietly assisting behind the scenes at Grace St. Andrew’s United Church, helping with dinners, mashing potatoes, or stepping in wherever help was needed by lending a hand in support of the Lionette’s and their many activities, Roger was always there, steady and dependable, ensuring Peggy could give her time and energy freely.

An outstanding neighbour and a genuine people person, Roger loved others deeply and was known for his warm, welcoming nature. He noticed everyone and went out of his way to be friendly in every interaction. Nurses and lab staff at the hospital, staff members at the bank, clerks at the grocery store, to the familiar faces of his coffee crews at Tim Hortons and McDonald’s, and every single person in between. There was little he would not do to make life easier for others. He took pride in ensuring lawns were cut, snow was cleared, and that neighbours were cared for, especially during difficult times. Transporting friends and neighbours to medical appointments brought him genuine joy and reflected his generous heart.

A steadfast and diligent soul, Roger loved a good meal and was an avid hockey enthusiast, faithfully cheering for the Chicago Blackhawks. Born in Québec, where he first crossed paths with his beloved Peggy, who hailed from the shores of Newfoundland, Roger later developed a deep fondness for Newfoundland and the many journeys he shared there. He was especially drawn to its breathtaking landscapes and the warmth of its people. He loved to drive and was an avid road-tripper at heart, relishing the open highway and especially the long drives to Newfoundland that blended adventure with the simple joy of the journey.

Roger’s arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street North, Arnprior, Ontario K7S 2L3. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, January 8, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m., prior to the Memorial Service.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, in the Boyce Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Arnprior Albert Street Cemetery, with a reception afterward at the Boyce Reception Centre.

In memory of Roger, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Grace St. Andrew’s United Church, Arnprior, Ontario.
