Obituary of Gwendolyn "Gwen" Giles
Gwendolyn Elizabeth Giles
"Gwen"
(nee Heintzman)
September 13, 1938 – September 14, 2025
Gwendolyn "Gwen" Elizabeth Giles (née Heintzman) of Almonte, Ontario, passed away peacefully at the Almonte General Hospital on Sunday, September 14, 2025 with her family by her side. She was 87. In a beautiful and poignant coincidence, she joined her beloved late husband, Ivan Giles, on the very day they celebrated their wedding anniversary.
Born in Almonte to her late parents, George and Annie (Graham) Heintzman, Gwen later grew up in Whitney, her beloved hometown, where she was always surrounded by many friends. She settled in Almonte after her marriage but spent most of her final years living in Whitney. From her early days working at the Almonte Textile Mill, where she honed her industrious spirit, to her later career in electronics at Digital and Reltek, Gwen exemplified dedication and quiet strength. She took immense pride in receiving a special pin for her 60 years of devoted service with the Almonte Legion Branch #240, a reflection of her lifelong commitment to her community and fellow veterans.
Gwen was a loving and devoted family woman, whose warmth and wisdom touched everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by her loving children: Heather Smith of Almonte, Barbara Giles of Arnprior, and Ian Giles of Whitney. She was the cherished grandmother of Kristy Graham (Edward), Conrad Smith, and Matthew O'Brien, and a joyful great-grandmother to Noah and Lexi Graham. Gwen was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Sandy. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Jack and George "Bud" Heintzman, and her sisters, Madge Cenzura, Agnes Wickens, and Gertrude McCormick.
Gwen's arrangements have been entrusted into the care of the Boyce Funeral Home, 138 Daniel Street, Arnprior. A private family interment will take place at Auld Kirk Cemetery in Almonte. Gwen's legacy of love, service, and family will live on forever in the hearts of those she held so close. Rest in peace, dear Gwen.
