Obituary of Marian Fumerton

Marian Katherine Ruth Fumerton (Storey)
February 19, 1934 - February 27, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Marian Katherine Ruth Fumerton. Marian peacefully passed away with family members at her side, at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga on February 27, 2025, at the age of 91.

Predeceased by her husband Wilbert (Bill) Fumerton, daughter Wendy (Hewitt), and son Mark, Marian leaves behind her children Richard (Monika), Jeff (Ellen), and Barbara (Rod); her grandchildren Carrie, Chad, Nathan, Olivia, Andrew, Scott, and Vanessa (Stephen); and many cherished nieces, nephews, family, and lifelong friends.

Marian was born on February 19, 1934, in Ottawa, Ontario, to Welland and Pearl Storey of Pakenham, and was predeceased by her brother Dr. Robert Storey of Ottawa.
She met the love of her life, Bill, in business college, and after graduating, worked at Civil Defence in Ottawa. They married in Pakenham on March 1, 1954, and started their life together in Arnprior before settling in Brampton in the mid-1960s to raise their family. Marian worked in medical clerical roles and, after retirement in the early 90s, she and Bill returned to the Ottawa Valley to enjoy their golden years. After Bill’s passing in July 2024, Marian moved to Mississauga to be closer to her family. Their 70-year marriage was a testament to their deep love and commitment.

Marian was a woman of strength, sharp wit, and a heart full of love. She was never one to mince words, but was full of warmth and wisdom that made her a trusted confidante. She was a dedicated mother, and her love for her family shone through in the meaningful ways she showed she cared, like her famous baked beans for the boy’s annual May fishing trip, her Christmas baking traditions, and the countless ways she made every gathering special. She had a gift for creating a warm and inviting home, and no matter the season, it was always beautifully decorated. Whether it was twinkling Christmas lights, thoughtful seasonal decor, or a table set with care, her home was a reflection of her love for family and tradition.

She built lifelong friendships with neighbors and coworkers, always bringing humor and kindness into the lives of those around her. She also had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, and always seemed to have one curled up beside her.

Marian’s presence was a steady, guiding force in our lives. She has left us with a lifetime of beautiful memories and stories we will tell and retell with laughter and love. Though we grieve her loss, we are grateful for the years we had with her, and she will be dearly missed.

A private family interment will take place at St. Mark’s Anglican Cemetery in Pakenham, Ontario.
