Melissa Barbara Catherine Neely

It is with great sadness that we announce that our family’s matriarch, Melissa Barbara Catherine Neely (nee Vance) passed away peacefully in her 83rd year at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on Saturday July 21, 2018. Devoted wife for 57 years to the late Daykin Alexander Neely (January 4, 2016). Dearly loved mother of Margaret-Ann Davis (Jeff) and Barbara Cavanagh (Barry). Predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Potter (Gary). Most cherished “Granny” of Cassandra (Jake), Dakota and Paul. Melissa was the last surviving child of Frederick and Myrtle (Baskin) Vance. Predeceased by brothers Erwin (late Betty) and Alonzo (Vicki). She will be missed by sisters-in-law Ruby Spencer and Sheila Neely (late Lyman) and brother-in-law Mel Lillie (late Norma). Predeceased by sisters-in-law Lavina Morand (Hector) and Lillian Lockwood (late Earl) and brother-in-law Lester Neely. Special Aunt to Fred Vance (Lorrie) and great Aunt to Gavan. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Everyone was welcomed into Melissa’s home; there was always room for one more at the table. She shared her love and talents with all, leaving a legacy of inclusiveness for us to follow. Devoted to her faith, Melissa gave countless hours of her time to her church and community and will be fondly remembered for her kindness, generosity and warm smile. The family wish to extend a special heartfelt thank-you to the staff at the Arnprior Hospital for their warm, compassionate care. Melissa’s family will receive visitors Wednesday July 25, 2018 at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Woodlawn at 12:30 p.m. A celebration of Life will take place in the church at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment and a reception. In memory of Melissa, donations may be made to St. Thomas Anglican Church, Woodlawn or to the Dementia Society.
