I just a few weeks ago I found out that Bill had passed away in March. I often listen to Van Morrison and one day I messaged his daughter, Anne Marie and heard the news. Free spirit, lover of music, all round lovely gentle man. Haven’t seen him for over 50 years and one Van Morrison tune put’s me in touch with him again. He will be missed, that, I am sure about. Met Bill about 40 years ago - and though we did not spend a lot of time together, the time we had was always a joy for us both. Music - more specifically - guitar was our common interest, and most of our conversations were confined to that subject. Seeing Bill was like finding a long lost friend - always pleasant and polite. Sadness has overwhelmed us all here at Mill Music in Renfrew, ON. Bill was a very special guy. I've known Bill seems like all my life and I guess I have when I come to think of it. We have always had great discussions about anything about music and so on. Most every time Billy Boy would come into the shop I'd say, I'll bet I know where you're coming from, Bill would reply, "Man that was so good, I had my fill". Bill would come to Renfrew every month or so and go to the Shanloom Chinese Buffet in Renfrew., He'd say he just loved their Chinese Food. Bill was very intelligent and a wise man too. We used to laugh at just about everything and cry bout nothing, we were just that way. Godspeed to you Bill. We'll always have a place in our hearts to remember our friend who came to Arnprior from Holland.

From the first meeting of Bill, his love of music, his sense of humour and his independent nature stood out. It was apparent he was a unique person who definitely was one of a kind. My brothers Craig and Rick Almont introduced Bill at the old farm house here in Brampton just off Vodden St., hard to imagine now. Bill was a great friend to our family. We met him just after he retired from the fire department. Have not seen him in years but knowing Bill, we would say hello and it was like time never moved on. i loved visits from Bill , he was such a well read and interesting gentle soul. We’d get into long long discussions with lots of laughs. I will miss Bill, he was a great guy!

I have many fond memories of my visits with Bill during my time spent living on the Kippen Road near White Lake. We would occasionally visit each other and because we both played guitar and sang songs, the subject was usually about music. Bill was a kind and friendly man and we shared many laughs together. The family here in London was sorry to hear of Uncle Billy’s passing. We may not have many recent memories of Uncle Billy, but one thought is unanimous: when Uncle Billy entered a room, he had the ability to lighten the mood of a crowd in a hurry! Music was as important to Billy as it is to his older brother Bob. Both loved playing music and bringing joy to others with it all their lives. Although they were 15 years apart, that common love of music created a bond between them. Over the years, the two often connected over long-distance phone calls. When the conversation was wrapping up, Billy always made a point to say how much he appreciated it! The Schinkel family from the London area send our condolences to Billy’s children, family and friends. He will be missed.

My memories with the Schink have always involved music.i started playing music with BIll when I was 16 which then led to 35 years of music and friendship.BIlls dining room table is where it all happened musicians seated and standing all around truly beautiful moments.You were a true character my friend when you rolled with BIll it was always a adventure.Bill used to love sing and play on guitar wild west end by dire straits he did a great version of it.For several years a group of us including BIll would spend 3 days volunteering construction services at Camp Trillium in Picton Ontario.At that time the camp was designed to provibed a outdoor experience for children with cancer.Bill was always ready and willing to help those in need whether its a person or a stray animal.Gonna miss you buddy thank you amigo

"Wimmie." you were the second youngest in our busy, noisy family of 11. You were born one month before the end of WW II and the end of the Hunger Winter in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Over the years I have wondered whether your zest for life, your curiosity, your need to explore, and sometimes controversial /oppositional remarks, can be traced to your early years living in those chaotic and troubled times. Many times in recent years you came to our place for a bite to eat, for a lengthy discussion about religion and politics and the afterlife. Many times we discussed art and history. Often you brought gifts, coffee, a musical instrument ( a yukelele, a clarinet), a music disc, and books. Your dog Bandit loved to roam around our place, chasing squirrels and wild turkeys. You were a free thinker who often challenged the beliefs of your more traditional siblings, but you never missed a birthday celebration or a family reunion. I am sorry that ,in the end , the doctors could not "mend your broken heart". Bedankt voor alles wat je hebt gegeven. A sad day. I've lived next door for over 15 years. Time in the rear view is a blink. Between my dogs wandering over to his place (sometimes through it when he'd left the door open in summer), or Bart wandering wherever, or in recent years Bill driving over to fetch Bandit for the daily drive into town for the McD’s run, or Bill dropping by to chat and sometimes dropping off spillover veggies that he couldn’t have possibly consumed on his own yet collected up on his travels, or Bill dropping off a book with subject matter related to a conversation he’d had with my daughter on a previous visit, or dropping off the mail he’d collected up when we were away, etc., and so on, you get to know a person. In more recent times with Bill’s reduced mobility the visits became less frequent. Myself and my family will miss him. I’m glad to have known him.

Here's my favourite musical memory with Bill -- One night we were sitting around playing a few tunes at his home, after a while, we stopped playing, and were just hanging out. Then, the moment happened -- out of the blue, Bill starts singing and playing the song "Waltz across Texas with you in my arms". No one joined in, we just sat and listened to his rough, raw voice belting out the tune with every fiber in his body (that boy had been practicing), he was "in the moment", it made our hair stand on end. Bill finished with a great big grin on his face - he was in the zone, we gave him a big hoot -- It was the best of Bill,

There are many memories to draw from when I think of my times spent with Bill. A special one close to my heart was he and I whizzing down the 417 in my Camaro....T-bar roof out.....just at sunrise.....tunes blaring.....living in the moment....carefree.
